Paul Young

This fall, Paul Young joins the Design Media Arts program as an Arts Council Faculty Member. Young has written extensively on new media arts, including a book for Taschen called Art Cinema. As a curator, he has produced a wide array of exhibitions in galleries, art fairs and museums where he has worked with artists such as Harun Farocki, Phil Solomon, Michael Snow, Giradet & Muller, Refik Anadol, Yang Fudong, Bob Flanagan & Sheree Rose, Petra Cortright, Julian Rosefeldt, Gary Hill. Young has produced curatorial projects that address a diverse range of thematics including dematerialization, light, transcendence, avatars, humor, Americana, cinematic tropes, political interventions, AI and more. If there’s a common theme running through all of them, it’s a concerted effort to foster profound experiences that might be evocative, sensorial and robust. Having a Master’s degree in filmmaking, he has also put together a number of programs for single screen presentations that have been screened at venues such as the Kulturhuset in Stockholm and the Arts Santa Monica Museum in Barcelona. His work has been featured in Artforum, Flash Art, Art LTD, Artillery, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and other international publications.
